Who are we and what do we do? |
|
| We are a group of 50 volunteers who donate our time
to present, produce or support the "live" broacast of a wide
variety of radio programs from Music & Chat to suit all tastes,
Local Sporting Events from Somerset Park Ayr & Rugby Park
Kilmarnock, Live shows from The Gaiety Theatre, Sunday Services from the
Chapel in Ayr Hospital and any event where we can get local access to an
ISDN line. We broadcast to the patients of Ayr and Biggart Hospitals from 1pm to 11pm Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 9pm Saturday & Sunday, 7 days per week, 365 days of the year. We are proud of the fact that we have broadcast "live" on every program since our start in the mid 50's. We depend heavily on Sponsorship and Donations to keep us broadcasting. Should you wish to support the work we do by sponsoship, donation or volunteering your time please contact us. Details are on the Contacts page. History Ayr Hospitals Radio started Broadcasting on November 28th 1953 with a "live" Football comentary from the main stand at Somerset Park, home of Ayr United Football Club. Members of the Local Supporters Association started a charity for the benefit of Football fans in the local Hospitals of Ayr County, Ailsa, Biggart, Heathfield and Templeton House. They raised money to build a small studio at the bottom corner of the park where they still broadcast commentaries for all Ayr United home matches to this present day. A three hour Sunday Request program was started in February 1981 and this is how it was, Saturdays Football and Sundays Music, until November 1991 when Ayr Hospitals Radio was offered the use of a custom built Radio Studio within the newly built Ayr Hospital The Program was expanded from 2 to 37 shows per week, 75+ hours of live broadcasts, a massive expansion made possible only by the efforts of our Volunteers. With the closure of the old Hospitals and the change to Trust Status, Ayr Hospitals Radio now broadcasts to Ayr and Biggart Hospitals. It is hoped to include Crosshouse and Ayrshire Cental Hospitals in the broadcasts in the near future. |
